Fort Worth, Texas – January 22, 2025 – Pastor Kyev Tatum and Black Texans for School Choice commend Texas leadership for their historic commitment to empowering parents and students through the allocation of $1 billion towards Education Savings Accounts (ESAs).


“This is exciting news for Texans, particularly for Black families whose children are disproportionately struggling in public schools,” said Pastor Tatum. “This bold investment signals a transformational moment in Texas education. Now is the time to pass meaningful school choice that prioritizes the success of all students.”


The $1 billion appropriation, double the amount allocated in 2023, marks the largest starting school choice program in the nation’s history. With this funding, 6 million children and their parents will gain access to new educational opportunities, ensuring a brighter future for Texas students.


“We are deeply grateful to our state’s leaders for their unwavering commitment to parents and students,” Pastor Tatum continued. “This program will offer much-needed options to families who have long been underserved by the public education system. It is a monumental step toward achieving equity and excellence in education.”
