BENDS TOWARDS JUSTICE 2025
Fort Worth Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a Month of Service and Justice Initiatives
As the nation pauses to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Fort Worth is preparing for a transformative MLK Holiday Month. Led by Pastor Kyev Tatum and the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas, this year’s theme, “Bends Towards Justice 2025,” highlights the community’s dedication to service, justice, and healing through a series of impactful events.

The month-long celebration begins with the MLK Hunger Bowl on January 9 at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, 2864 Mississippi Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76104. This annual initiative brings attention to hunger in the inner city while providing essential food and household supplies to families in need.
“Hunger is a crisis that demands action,” Pastor Tatum said. “Through the Hunger Bowl, we can take a step toward building a community where no one goes without.”
Local partners, including the Midwest Food Bank, are helping make this event a beacon of hope for those in need.

Justice will take the spotlight on January 16 at the inaugural MLK Justice Brunch in the Milford L. Kelly Fellowship Hall at New Mount Rose. Featuring keynote speaker Ms. Marsha Moberley, Chairwoman of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, this event promises to be a thought-provoking discussion on reform and rehabilitation in the justice system.
Ms. Moberley, who has over 25 years of experience in criminal justice, will share her insights and inspire the audience to continue Dr. King’s mission of justice and equity.
The brunch will also honor community leaders and pastors Andre Johnson, Robert Brown, and John Holimon for their steadfast commitment to uplifting the underserved and advocating for justice.
Painting with a Purpose | January 18, 2025, 10 AM
On January 18, the focus shifts to preserving a piece of Fort Worth’s history while inspiring its future. Painting with a Purpose will take place at 1333 East Magnolia Avenue, the site of Pastor Tatum’s childhood home. Volunteers will spend the day cleaning and preparing the house for renovation as part of a plan to transform it into an inner-city coffee project for Fort Worth’s youth.
“This home holds the memories of my past and the promise of the future,” Pastor Tatum explained. “Through this project, we aim to create opportunities for young people to learn about entrepreneurship and innovation in the specialty coffee industry.”
This hands-on service project embodies the spirit of Dr. King’s belief in action, community, and transformation.
National Day of Racial Healing | January 21, 2025, 12 Noon | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I56F4BoFSv8
The celebration culminates on January 21 with “Black Land in White Hands: Healing and Rebuilding” at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church. This event, part of the National Day of Racial Healing, will address the legacy of racial inequity in land ownership and wealth distribution.
Historians, activists, and leaders will discuss the impact of these disparities and explore ways to create a more equitable future. This event will serve as both a reflection on the past and a call to action for healing and progress.
“Dr. King’s dream challenges us to confront systemic inequities with courage and determination,” said Pastor Tatum. “This gathering is an opportunity to build bridges and create solutions.”
A Month of Purpose
The MLK Holiday Month is more than a celebration—it’s a movement. Through these events, Pastor Kyev Tatum and the Ministers Justice Coalition aim to honor Dr. King’s legacy by fostering a spirit of service, unity, and action.
“These initiatives allow us to transform our ideals into impact,” Pastor Tatum stated. “Together, we can continue Dr. King’s march toward justice and equality.”
