The 2025 MLK Hunger Bowl at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church

Fort Worth, Texas – New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, in collaboration with partners Midwest Food Bank, Secured Moving Company, the Sheriff’s Department Detail, and the Ministers Justice Coalition, is proud to host the 2025 MLK Hunger Bowl on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 3:00 PM. This event is part of the 2025 MLK End Hunger Challenge, aimed at addressing the hunger crisis in Fort Worth’s 76104 ZIP code, which has the lowest life expectancy in Texas.

Since its founding in 1964, New Mount Rose has been a cornerstone of support in the Fort Worth community, providing spiritual nourishment and essential resources to those in need. Whether offering physical food or spiritual care, New Mount Rose continues to “fill our neighbors’ bowls with blessings for their souls.”

The MLK Hunger Bowl at New Mount Rose is a pivotal event in the ongoing fight against hunger, a reflection of the core values Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. advocated for throughout his life—selflessness, service, and community unity. This year’s Hunger Bowl will provide food, prayer, and a sense of hope to over 500 families in underserved areas of Fort Worth.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to continue Dr. King’s legacy of service, particularly in our 76104 community,” said Pastor Kyev P. Tatum. “This event is not only about feeding the body but also nourishing the spirit. Our aim is to address the food insecurity that so many of our neighbors face and ensure they feel the support and love of this community.”

The MLK Hunger Bowl will feature:

Free food distribution for families, including canned goods, fresh produce, bread, milk, pastries, and more.

Community prayers to uplift and encourage those in need.

Information on resources and support for individuals facing food insecurity and other challenges.

The MLK End Hunger Challenge was inspired by the teachings of Dr. King, reminding us that “Giving is better than receiving.” The event will serve as a gathering place for neighbors to connect, share in the spirit of unity, and receive the support needed to help them thrive.

Fort Worth resident Sheretta Glenn, who attended last year’s event, shared her gratitude:

“It means a lot for me to come to these events and get food I can’t afford. It’s a whole lot of weight lifted off my shoulders. Everything is so expensive right now, and I’m thankful for what this church does.”

New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church is committed to serving the 76104 community year-round, but the MLK Hunger Bowl offers a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together to help those in need.
