What Is Coffee Allo?
Coffee Allo Cooperative is a new opportunity for single mothers who are ready for more—more stability, more income, and more control over their future (https://youtu.be/lGN1NYYYiU0).
Coffee Allo is a women-led specialty coffee cooperative created to help single mothers move from welfare to the workforce, from short-term assistance to long-term economic independence
This is not a handout.
This is a hand up, a skill set, and a pathway to ownership.
Who Coffee Allo Is For
Coffee Allo is designed for single mothers who:
• Want a real career, not just a job
• Need flexible, family-friendly work
• Are ready to learn new skills
• Want to earn a livable wage
• Desire dignity, stability, and ownership
Whether you are reentering the workforce or starting fresh, Coffee Allo meets you where you are and helps you grow.
Why Coffee?
Coffee is one of the largest industries in the world—and women drink more coffee than men.
Yet single mothers are often left out of the business and ownership side of coffee.
Coffee Allo changes that by teaching women how to:
• Brew and serve specialty coffee
• Roast and understand coffee quality
• Work in cafés and hospitality
• Learn the business of coffee
• Share in cooperative ownership
Coffee Allo helps women move from buying coffee to building wealth through coffee.
What You Will Learn
At Coffee Allo, single mothers are trained in the art, science, and business of specialty coffee, including:
• Coffee brewing and barista skills
• Roasting and quality fundamentals
• Customer service and hospitality
• Cooperative economics
• Small-business and workforce readiness
The goal is not temporary work, but marketable skills, steady income, and shared ownership.
Why the Name “Allo”?
Across many languages and cultures, “Allo” (also spelled Allô, Aló, Alô) means “Hello?”
It is what people say when they are reaching out—when they want to be heard, when they are ready to connect, and when they are open to what comes next.
Around the world:
• 🇫🇷 French – Allô
• 🇪🇸 Spanish – Aló
• 🇵🇹 Portuguese – Alô
• 🇮🇹 Italian – Alo
• 🇭🇺 Hungarian – Alló
• 🇻🇳 Vietnamese – A lô
No matter the language, Allo means connection, response, and readiness.
The name Coffee Allo, used by permission of Ms. Allo Williams, a single mother moving from welfare to workforce, represents every woman saying:
“Hello… I’m ready for more.”
Coffee Allo answers back:
“Hello. We hear you.”
Where Coffee Allo Is Based
Coffee Allo is housed at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas 76104—one of the most economically challenged ZIP codes in Texas and home to the lowest life expectancy in the state.
For decades, New Mount Rose has served as a community anchor, supporting families through education, workforce development, health, and economic justice.
Coffee Allo was born here to change the future, not just talk about it.
Rooted in faith. Grounded in community. Aligned with industry.
Why Coffee Allo Is a Texas Cooperative
Coffee Allo is intentionally structured as a Texas cooperative, one of the most effective and protective business models for helping single mothers with children move from welfare to work.
Under Texas law, cooperatives are member-owned and democratically controlled businesses. This means the women who participate in Coffee Allo are not just workers—they are owners with rights, protections, and a voice.
This legal structure provides fairness, stability, and long-term opportunity, especially for mothers transitioning from public assistance.
How the Texas Cooperative Model Benefits Single Mothers.
Member Ownership
Each participating mother becomes a member-owner of the cooperative. Ownership is based on participation—not wealth—ensuring the business exists to serve women and families, not outside investors.
One Member, One Vote
Every member has equal voting power, regardless of income or background. This protects mothers from exploitation and guarantees a real voice in decisions that affect their work and future.
Income Plus Equity
Members earn wages for their work and may also share in surplus earnings—called capital credits—based on participation. This allows mothers to build long-term equity, not just collect a paycheck.
A Safer Transition From Welfare to Work
The cooperative structure supports a gradual, responsible transition for mothers receiving TANF, SNAP, or child care assistance by:
• Encouraging steady workforce participation
• Supporting income growth over time
• Helping families stabilize before benefits phase out
Education and Protection Built In
Texas cooperatives are guided by principles that emphasize:
• Education and training
• Transparency
• Concern for community
Coffee Allo reflects these principles by prioritizing workforce readiness, business education, and a supportive environment for mothers and children.
