This was more than a moment—it is a movement. The spotlight on the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion has grown brighter thanks to the 2024 Netflix film directed by Tyler Perry, starring Kerry Washington, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. Retired Colonel Edna Cummings, who shared powerful words of acceptance at the ceremony, also directed the groundbreaking 2019 documentary that helped bring this story to light. Our Little Miss 6888th Ambassadors made their nationa...

You were there, not as spectators, but as stewards of our story. What an honor—and what a responsibility. You are young in years, but mighty in purpose. Every ribbon...

WHEN DOVES FLY:  The Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas Honors the 80th Anniversary of the Fallen Heroes of the 6888th. Wednesday, April 30, 2025 | 3:00 PM | MLK Stone of Hope Memorial, Washington, D.C. On the solemn afternoon of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas, in partnership with The Texas 6888th Project, will host a commemorative ceremony at the MLK Stone of Hope Memorial in Washington, D.C. to honor the 80th anniversary of the tragic loss of three brave members of the historic 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. Today, they rest together in the American Cemetery overlooking Om...

LABOR TO REST. Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu: A Brother Beloved — In Thoughts and Deeds. By Pastor Kyev Tatum, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church of Fort Worth Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of our dear brother, Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu. In 2019, I had the privilege of welcoming him to New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church as we confronted the painful reality of the shockingly low life expectancy in Fort Worth’s 76104 ZIP code. He came with compassion, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to healing. His presence was a blessing to our community. Sadly, his wisdom was ignored by city leaders unwilling to address the root causes—systemic racism and generational neglect—that continue to steal years and futures from our people. I first met Brother Kunjufu in January 1987 at the Southwestern Student Leadership Conference at Texas A&M University. From that moment on, we walked together as brothers in the struggle for justice and dignity. Dr. Kunjufu deeply understood the plight ...

Kyev P. Tatum, Sr. New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church Fort Worth, Texas 76104 A Heat Emergency in 76104: Turning Crisis into Community Call Fort Worth’s 76104 ZIP code has the lowest life expectancy in Texas. This distressing reality stems from deep-rooted social determinants—poverty, food insecurity, limited healthcare access, and systemic disinvestment. During the summer months, extreme urban heat compounds these conditions, transforming this area into a danger zone for children, elders, and outdoor workers. With climate change intensifying, the urgent question becomes: h...
