LOVE, HONOR & RESPECT. Romans 13:7 | A Biblical Mandate to Honor and Respect the Pastor and Wife.
Romans 13:7 – “Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.”
NEW MOUNT ROSE | In an age where leadership is often criticized rather than celebrated, the Bible calls us to a higher standard — one of respect and honor. Romans 13:7 commands believers to “give honor to whom honor is due.” Though Paul’s immediate context is civil government, the principle applies broadly to every sphere where God has ordained leadership — including the spiritual care of His people.
Why Pastoral Honor and Respect Matter.
Pastors are shepherds charged with guiding, teaching, and protecting the flock. They pour out their lives in prayer, preaching, counseling, and sacrificial service. Honoring them is not mere sentimentality — it is obedience to God’s Word and a recognition of their labor of love (Hebrews 13:17).
To fail to honor faithful spiritual leadership is to miss an opportunity to strengthen the body of Christ. When we show gratitude, we encourage those who lead and inspire the next generation to see ministry as worthy of respect.
The Pastor’s Wife — A Co-Laborer.
Often overlooked is the unique role of the pastor’s wife. Sister Tatum has stood faithfully by Pastor Tatum’s side, sharing in the joys and burdens of ministry. The pastor’s wife comforts, prays, encourages, and often sacrifices her own desires for the sake of the congregation. As Strategic Renewal rightly points out, she is “an unsung hero” whose presence makes ministry sustainable.
Seven Years of Integrity and Commitment.
For seven years, Pastor and Sister Tatum have led New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church of Fort Worth with integrity and courage. Under their leadership, the church has become a beacon of hope, truth, and community transformation in Fort Worth’s Historic Southside.
Their work has been especially impactful during times of crisis:
• During the pandemic, Pastor and Sister Tatum turned New Mount Rose into a “Clinic Without Walls,” offering free COVID-19 testing, vaccinations, and wellness checks for the community.
• After the winter storm crisis, they led efforts to identify recovery resources for those impacted by the disaster.
• In economic recovery efforts, they helped distribute over $25 million worth of food, water, supplies, medical home and direct assistance to families in need — ensuring no one was left behind.
Beyond crisis response, their ministry has birthed initiatives like Skills City, USA, the Community Food Bowl, Thanksgiving Thursdays, Little Miss Six Triple Eight, and Camp Buffalo Soldiers — all designed to spiritually empower, educate, and uplift the next generation.
Celebrating With Purpose
This is why an anniversary celebration is not simply a church tradition — it is a biblical response. It is our way of saying: We see your labor. We honor your faithfulness. We give thanks to God for your leadership.
When we gather to celebrate Pastor and Sister Tatum’s anniversary, we are participating in an act of worship. We are aligning with Romans 13:7 by giving the respect and honor God commands. Whether through words of tribute, gifts, or prayers, we affirm the sacred calling of pastoral leadership and strengthen the unity of the church.
In Conclusion
To honor Pastor and Sister Tatum is to honor God who called them. It is to celebrate not only what they have done, but who they are — faithful servants of Christ who lead with integrity. As we mark seven years of their ministry, we are reminded that giving honor where honor is due is not just a good idea; it is a biblical mandate.
