“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.” — Psalm 23:5

Vision Statement

To cultivate a living legacy of African American military service by building a multi-generational platform that preserves our history, empowers our people, and prepares our future.

Mission Statement

The New Mount Rose Institute for Black Military Heritage exists to preserve, protect, and promote the rich yet often overlooked contributions of African American service members from the Revolutionary War to the present day. Rooted in faith and fortified by community, the Institute utilizes historical research, urban farming, educational travel, and entrepreneurship as strategic tools for economic empowerment, cultural restoration, and intergenerational healing.

Our Four Core Pillars

1. Farm | “Rear Our Own to Succeed”

Home to Farm Fort Worth, our urban agriculture initiative confronts food insecurity while celebrating the agricultural expertise of Black veterans and sharecroppers. Youth and families participate in hands-on training in sustainable farming, nutrition, and land stewardship through the Buffalo Soldiers 4-H Club, planting seeds of both wellness and generational wealth.

2. Research | “Stories Worth Sharing”

In partnership with the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress, we collect and preserve the oral histories, photographs, letters, and military records of African American soldiers. Our physical and digital archive stands as a national resource—restoring dignity, amplifying forgotten voices, and inspiring scholarship, curriculum development, and civic pride.

3. Travel | “Feet in the Past, Eyes on the Future”

The Institute sponsors immersive educational pilgrimages to historic Black military sites, HBCUs, and global landmarks of Black resistance and triumph. These journeys build cross-generational understanding, pride, and leadership by grounding today’s youth in the courageous footsteps of those who came before them.

4. Entrepreneurship | “From Bean to the Bank.”

In the spirit of resilience and self-determination, we train veterans and youth in financial literacy, business development, and leadership from the Bean to the Bank. With support from the Texas A&M Center for Coffee Research and Education, initiatives like the Inner City Coffee Exchange, Bean to Bank Academy, and the Swiller Squad blend agriculture, branding, and enterprise—turning legacy into ownership and opportunity.

Spiritual Foundation

Inspired by Psalm 23:5, the New Mount Rose Institute is a sacred table of restoration—prepared in the presence of adversity. Here, Black military history is not only remembered but revived. Here, community members are not only served but empowered. And here, generations are nourished with ancestral wisdom, faith, and purpose.
