Let’s Be Black Again. A Poem for the Next Generation.

You are Not a Slave
LEROY CAMPBELL

"A timeless work of art by South Carolina Gullah artist Leroy Campbell. This work of art explores the themes of education and Black History. It depicts an African American educator teaching two young Black Children about their rich heritage and all the great things African Americans have accomplished in the past and the present. Her goal is to make sure the youth understand that the story of their people did not start with Slavery and that they are from a lineage of greatness."

Let’s Be Black Again.

A Poem for the Next Generation.

Let’s be Black again,

Not just in skin, but in spirit,

In rhythm, in wisdom,

In the stories we inherit.

Let’s walk with the power

Of those who came before,

Who built with their hands,

Who opened each door.

Let’s be Black again,

With heads held high,

Rooted in culture,

Reaching for sky.

Let’s be the drumbeat

That echoes through time,

The poetry, the melody,

The freedom-filled rhyme.

Let’s wear our history

Like a crown on our head,

Not just in February,

But in all that we’ve said.

Let’s be Black again,

Bold, unafraid,

Creators, inventors,

A legacy made.

From Africa’s shores

To the fields of the South,

To cities that rose

From struggle and doubt.

Let’s love who we are,

Let’s honor our name,

Let’s tell our own stories,

Let’s fuel our own flame.

Young kings and queens,

This is your call,

Stand in your greatness,

Be proud, be tall.

Let’s be Black again,

And never forget,

We are a people

The world won’t regret.
