The Youth Coffee Academy is a pioneering educational program that guides middle and high school students through every stage of the specialty coffee industry. From the bean to the bank, the Academy prepares students for meaningful careers in coffee—offering practical skills, certifications, and entrepreneurial training while instilling the importance of service to their communities.

At the Youth Coffee Academy, “From the Bean to the Bank” symbolizes the complete journey students undertake—from understanding the origins of coffee to creating their own profitable ventures. By equipping students with the knowledge of coffee’s lifecycle, the program fosters a deep appreciation for the craft while empowering them to turn their skills into economic success.


Program Highlights


1. The Bean: Coffee Agriculture and Science


Students begin their journey by exploring the origins of coffee, learning how beans are grown, harvested, and processed. Topics include:

Sustainable farming practices.

The science of coffee plant cultivation.

Hands-on processing techniques like washing and drying beans.


2. The Cup: Barista Training and Coffee Craftsmanship


Students dive into the art and science of brewing, learning the skills necessary to create a perfect cup of coffee.

Barista certifications in brewing methods, espresso preparation, and latte art.

Customer service skills for specialty coffee shops.

Coffee cupping (tasting) to identify and describe flavor profiles.


3. The Roast: Mastering Coffee Roasting Techniques


Roasting is where the flavor comes to life. Students gain hands-on experience in transforming green coffee beans into specialty roasts.

Operating commercial roasting equipment.

Experimenting with roast profiles to create unique flavors.

Understanding quality control and inventory management.


4. The Bank: Business and Entrepreneurship

Running a pop-up coffee shop as a capstone project to apply learned skills.
